Lighting sculptures in museums and galleries – the observer’s guide

This study is about how daylight and supplementary artificial light affects the lit appearance of stone statues and whether or not that is perceived by the observer as well as initially intended by the designer. It is a comparison of eight stone sculptures, each in a space with different architectural properties. The interesting outcome of the study reinforced the notion of ‘less is more’.
