(Em)Powering Times Square

How can a quintessentially energy-hungry light environment such as Times Square show environmental stewardship for higher performance 21st-century nightscapes? In this paper, the speaker will present the preliminary results of “(Em)Powering Times Square”. This twelve-month applied research initiative uses Times Square as a case study for a precise computation of light output from electronic displays and media façades versus renewable energy input.

Nathalie Rozot established her planning and design practice and academic service in lighting design in 2000 after working for over ten years in product, exhibition, architecture, landscape and urban design. A former Director for l’Observatoire International, she started her own design and research practice in 2006 and founded Photic in 2008. She is Assistant Professor at Parsons, and lectures at university level around the world.
