Developing a sustainable lighting education

At what moment in our life did we first consider lighting and in what sense did we understand it? At what point did lighting stop just being a tool to go about our everyday business and become a career choice? This paper will seek to generate an awareness of the value that academic studies can have for the lighting profession, and that the key to developing a strong future for all begins at the ‘grass roots’ by nurturing the professionals of tomorrow.

Stuart Green has been instrumental in the creation and development of the BSc (Hons) Lighting Design & Technology and BSc (Hons) Live Event Technology courses in Glamorgan, of which he is a Senior Lecturer and Award Leader. He came to this position with extensive experience as a lighting designer and programmer for live events, theatre and dance.
