This program will be presented in an artful, entertaining multiple-media format. It will be timely, edgy and fun. But more importantly, it will be the first international paper to provide lighting designers with concrete recommendations towards employing "healthy" lighting and daylighting design techniques on current projects.

Professions tend to establish a register so that only those individuals who are tested and licensed and work in the profession they claim to belong to are officially recognized. The speaker will be taking a realistic look at the state of the lighting design profession and put forward a strategic scheme for achieving recognition through a licensing system. If lighting designers can be licensed – then they exist. And their profession exists.

Jim Benya, FIESNA, FIALD, LC is a professional lighting designer and consultant with 35 years’ experience. He is a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer (California PE E1 2078). His firm, Benya Lighting Design, is a member of the US Green Buildings Council and an IESNA Sustaining Member.

Recognized as a leading authority in the field of Epigenetic Design, Deborah Burnett, ASID, CMG is an award winning, state registered interior designer, licensed building contractor, and chair holder of the Color Marketing Group. Combining her knowledge of the interior environment with evidence- based scientific research, she bridges the gap between medicine and design with her unique design perspective and extensive physician-level study.
