Three dramatic developments

Three heritage projects show how ideas of what lighting can and should achieve have changed over time. Although all three schemes have successfully accommodated modern needs such as energy saving, safety and providing flexibility through the use of technologies such as lighting controls, they show how our needs and perceptions have changed. This presentation will end with a glimpse into the future.

After taking a degree in Architecture, Mark Sutton Vane, IALD, PLDA went into the manufacturing of light fittings. In 1995 he started Sutton Vane Associates, which has completed a wide range of projects and written strategies and master plans for many cities. The design practice has also worked on photovoltaic-based lighting, alternative energy and wind-powered lighting.
