Singapore Youth Olympic Games: how show lighting and urban lighting meet in the middle

The speaker will use the example of the Opening & Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games at Marina Bay to explain the larger context of these events in the urban environment and their relationship to water and light in particular. The speaker will further elaborate on how he used the experience gathered in architectural lighting projects in terms of sustainable design and translated this into the processes involved in designing lighting for the kind of events mentioned above.

Koert Vermeulen, IALD, PLDA has always been fascinated by light. Starting out as a lighting console operator in night clubs and for concerts, over 30 years later his career is strewn with “fantastic experiences” in event, stage, urban and architectural lighting. In 1995 he founded ACT Lighting Design, expanding his playground and opening doors to new perspectives.
