Iain Ruxton, PLDA/UK

The meaning of light – towards a taxonomy of illuminatory semiotics

The speaker hopes to inspire lighting professionals to think more critically and philosophically about light and lighting. For the profession to mature, designers must be able to consider their subject in a wider context than the purely technical and the comparatively superficial pursuit of prettiness. The speaker will illustrate the paper by referencing a wide selection of imagery, including excellent lighting projects as well as natural phenomena and the visual arts.

Iain Ruxton, PLDA studied at the University of Glasgow and while working as a graphic designer became interested in lighting design for its mix of both creative and technical skills. Iain has over 14 years of experience as a lighting designer, joining Speirs and Major in 1996.

Iain Ruxton will be introduced by Meyer und Sohn
