Lighting Designer vs. the Evil Forces of consumerism

This paper intends to take a broader look at the contrasting socio-economical frameworks of the past and today, and east and west holistically, and discuss the invisible and hidden pressures that affect the lighting design profession. It aims to demonstrate that what lighting design profession has to offer can and should far exceed the expectations of today.

Emrah Baki Ulas, PLDA is a Sydney-based, award-winning lighting designer at the leading Australian practice Steensen Varming, and an adjunct lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney. He studied at Bogazici University Istanbul in Turkey, and at the University of Wismar in Germany.
