Applied darkness: the next step in sustainable lighting design

With Edward Bartholomew’s presentation the audience will learn how to use darkness to broaden the visual experience within interior spaces. They will also learn how to account for visual adaptation, surface reflectance and time within the lighting design process. Through precedent studies, applied research and case studies they will understand the role of darkness in successfully composed, balanced and healthy visual environments.

Edward Bartholomew, IALD, LC LEED AP, IES is a lighting designer, consultant and educator with over twenty years’ experience, and has won numerous awards for his work while developing performance-based sustainable lighting strategies. He has his own practice, Bartholomew Lighting, and teaches at the University of Washington.
