The darkness of the unconscious

This lecture looks at the psychological response to light from the point of view of Depth Psychology, the responses of the unconscious, responses to light that trigger something of meaning, something buried with each of us yet is discernible as a cultural archetype. This lecture aims to emphasise the reason why lighting designers practise the profession. It re-iterates how the meaning and philosophy of why lighting the environment is more important than the engineered approach that is the majority understanding of what lighting designers do.

Colin Ball has a background education in architecture and is a lighting designer with over fifteen years’ experience. He has worked on many large-scale internationally recognized projects across Europe and the Middle East incorporating many fields of expertise in historic Grade I listed architecture, large-scale engineering projects, museum installations, corporate headquarters, theatres, yachts and hotel / retail complexes.
